OVER £2.5M IN COMMUNITY ASSETS GIVEN TO PRIVATE FOR-PROFIT COMPANY

Salford City Council have given a privately owned For-Profit business YOUR assets

In 2011 the council built the For Profit Private Company Salford Trampoline Club a custom £2.5million facility attached to the councils own £9 million “Hub” in Higher Broughton.

The council charge £0 rent for this facility and so far (over 10years) have not asked for any contribution towards utilities whatsoever. Meaning YOU are paying them!

In 2011 the local council told constituents of its intention close the Fit City facilities on CAMP ST stating the need to cut costs.

This resulted in protest and objections from local constituents (www.salfordstar.com/article.asp?id=1268) and eventually a local community group tried to negotiate with the council in 2012 to keep the facility open but the council said no, this is because the council had already been in discussions with the For-Profit Salford Trampoline Club to form another business and take over this fantastic community asset for FREE (http://cityofsalfordtc.com/about-us/)

The vENUES

TWO COMMUNITY VENUES WORTH OVER £2.5M

NO RENT, NO UTILITIES, NO JUSTIFICATION

Attaining a community asset is difficult even for Not-For Profit organisations yet the council have given the venues below to a  For-Profit at tax payers expense.

  • THE HUB

A custom £2.5m venue attached the Hub facility in Higher Broughton. No Rent, No Rates, No Utilities

  • FIT CITY

A beloved former community asset with a potential commercial rental income of £80,000+ a year. NO RENT and repairs made at tax payer expenses.

PUBLIC FUNDS

When deciding where to invest public funds and allocate community assets local councils should not only look at the structure of the organisations they are funding but also ensure that taxpayer receive an appropriate return on these investments.

So far, having used taxpayers money to
  • Build a custom venue (£2.5m)
  • Allocated an additional community venue (£500,000),
  • Received no rental costs (approx £100,000 per year x 10 years )
  • Covered all utilities at The Hub venue ( approx £30,000 per year x 10 years)
Salford City Council have invested
£4.3M
And the returns for that £4.3M investment of taxpayers money over a10 year period are  the following outcomes
  • 16 hours of Free Hall usage to Connell college from Nov 2023-Dec 2023

That's it!

No free community sessions, No subsidised classes for low income families, No partnership work with ANY community groups

NOTHING!

As a resident in the 18th most deprived local authority area in England (out of 317) and the third most deprived local authority in Greater Manchester (Salford City Council, 2019) are you happy with the return for YOUR money?

Do you think it helped tackle the poverty, unemployment or any of the other issues facing the local community?
